Sailors compete in waters off Dapeng Bay during the 14th China Cup International Regatta.
Dapeng New District has abundant marine resources, boasting two bays, Dapeng Bay and Daya Bay. With a planned sea area of 1,380 square kilometers and a coastline stretching 125 kilometers, it truly qualifies as an “ocean area.” The area has been recognized as the “National Marine Ecological Civilization Construction Demonstration Area” as well as the “National Marine Ranch Demonstration Area.” Dapeng New District has also received praise as a “national-level marine ecological civilization construction demonstration area” and a “national-level marine pasture demonstration area.”
Moreover, Dapeng New District serves as a strong foundation for marine scientific research, hosting one of the first batch of national bio-industry bases approved by the National Development and Reform Commission: the Dapeng New District Marine Biological Industrial Park. This park accommodates various marine innovation carriers, such as the Guangdong Provincial Aquatic Animal Health Evaluation Engineering and Technology Research Center, Guangdong Provincial Marine Animal Breeding Engineering and Technology Research Center, Shenzhen Marine Biological Public Technology Service Platform, Shenzhen International Bio-Industrial Base, and Dapeng Marine Biological Industrial Park, among others. Currently, the focus is on the CPC municipal committee and municipal government’s initiative to designate Dapeng as the “global ocean center city centralized carrying area.” This effort concentrates on the dim light area, along with the key sea areas neighboring Longqi Bay. The goal is to actively promote the development of Shenzhen Ocean University, the National Deep-Sea Science and Research Center, and the integrated planning for the Marine Museum. Furthermore, efforts are underway to accelerate the establishment of national, provincial, and municipal marine science and technology infrastructures, as well as research and development platforms, to facilitate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements for the growth of the marine industry.
