On the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference held in February 2009, Jian Di'an, a member of the committee and then president of Shenzhen Tourism Association submitted a proposal titled “Accelerating the Development of Dapeng Peninsula's Tourism and Building a Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Tourism Circle.” Jian also proposed to combine the three sub-districts of Dapeng Peninsula into one new administrative district.

In the same year, Shenzhen Municipal Government completed the action plan of protecting and developing Dapeng Peninsula.

On Oct. 27, 2011, Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and Shenzhen Municipal Government announced that two new function districts, namely Longhua and Dapeng New Districts, will be formed. Dapeng New District consists of Dapeng, Kuichong and Nan’ao sub-districts.

On Dec. 30, 2011, Dapeng New District was officially established.
